May 25 - June 7–Tricia Cooper

Tricia Cooper is a Winnipeg actor and writer. She is a founding member of the sketch comedy troupe the Royal Liechtenstein Theatre Company. You may have heard her comedic commentary on CBC radio’s Definitely Not the Opera. Her other recognizable gig was bartending at the Mooswa back in the day. She is working on her first full length play.

June 8 – June 21–Joan Thomas

Joan Thomas is the author of Reading by Lightning, a novel that won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book (Canada and Caribbean Region.) She’s been a regular book reviewer for the Globe and Mail for more than a decade. She lives in Winnipeg but is originally from Carberry and spent summers at Clear Lake as a child.

Writer’s Workshop Description:

Writing on Water: An informal two-session writing workshop for everyone, offering practical techniques for turning your holiday memories into stories.

June 10 and June 17, 7 pm in the Deep Bay cabin. Bring a notebook.

June 22 –July 12–Sharon Alward and Gwen Armstrong

Sharon Alward is a Canadian video performance artist. She has exhibited in Canada, the U.S., U.K., France, Spain, and the Netherlands, including LACE, Western Front and the American Film Institute. Cited as one of the 100 most influential Canadian artists, and the recipient of several teaching awards, Sharon is a Senior Fellow and Professor at the University of Manitoba, School of Art.

Presentation: Video presentation followed by Q & A at the Visitor Centre, Thursday July 2 at 7:00 pm.

Gwen Armstrong works in video, installation and performance, and considers it her privilege and responsibility to reveal possibilities for individuals to “map” their own visions within a universe striving to reaffirm its wholeness.   She is the 2007 Gold Medal recipient as highest standing graduate, University of Manitoba School of Art, and was awarded the 2008 M. Charles Cohen Prize for Screenwriting.

July 13 – July 26–Sarah Klassen

Sarah Klassen is Winnipeg poet and fiction writer. Her most recent publication is a collection of short stories, A Feast of Longing (2007), which was nominated for the Margaret Laurence Fiction Prize and received the High Plains Fiction Award. Her latest poetry collection, A Curious Beatitude (2006), received the Canadian Authors’ Association Award for Poetry.

Writer’s Workshop Description:

Come to the log cabin for an opportunity to share stories and memories of forest, beach, sky and wild life. Participants will be guided as they give words to their experiences, translating them into poetry or prose.

July 15 and July 22, 7pm in the deep Bay cabin. Bring a notebook.

July 27 - Aug 9–James Durham has lived and worked in Manitoba as an actor and playwright for over twenty years. His plays include Franklin, My Old Man, and Cruel and Unusual Punishment. The Big League, for young audiences, has been performed over 900 hundred times across the country. He is currently working on a commission for Prairie Theatre Exchange entitled Nothing Like Love.

Aug 10-23–Diana Thorneycroft is a Winnipeg artist who has exhibited various bodies of work across Canada, the United States and Europe, as well as in Moscow, Tokyo and Sydney.

Canadian Art magazine named the touring show “Group of Seven Awkward Moments” as one of the top 10 exhibitions in 2008.

Presentation: Visitor Centre, Thursday Aug. 20 at 7:00 pm.

Aug 24- Sept 20–Michael Dudeck is an interdisciplinary artist and shaman whose works explore the divide between human and animal in the age of anxiety. He works in Performance, Drawing, Video, Sculpture, Installation, Sound + Writing. He has exhibited, performed and published locally, nationally and internationally, and is represented by Pari Nadimi Gallery in Toronto.

Presentation: Lecture/Performance at the Visitor Centre, Saturday Sept. 19 at 7:00 pm.

Sept 21 – Oct 11–Bill Lobchuk was born in the shadow of the Blue Mountain (Riding Mountain National Park), in Neepawa, in 1942. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1966, and opened The Grand Western Canadian Screen Shop. He has also owned and operated Gallery 454, and the Art Collectors Club. Bill has exhibited in Europe, Japan, and Canada, and is currently developing a series based on endangered plants and animals.
